Badges are now on sale. AGC Report J. Green 410-435-2528 Del Cockey elected new AGC
President for 2004!!! The AGC 2004 Election of Officers was held on January 6th and the results were really a big surprise. Stemmers Run own Del Cockey was elected the new President. Former President, Ralph Mussella, had decided not to seek re-election due to health reasons. We all recall that last year Ralph suffered a debilitating stroke but recovered strong enough to assume his duties of overseeing AGC operations. Del decided to run for the office since he'd previously held the position of VP for a number of years. He was elected by a unanimous vote. Congratulations, Del! We all wish you the best this upcoming year. |
Legislative Report Jim Meyer (410) 833-8310 The MD Assault Weapons Ban SB288 has been put on the fast track in Annapolis. The proposed ban provisions: ▪ Redefines and expands the soon to expire federal ban to include up to 45 semi-auto Rifles
▪ A roster board will determine what constitutes an assault weapon that
can later be expanded to include anything they deem necessary ▪ allows
owners of these weapons as of Sept. 13 to register them
in order to keep them. (In 1935, Hitler began passing a series of decrees on the German people that
registered all firearms, which by 1939 ended with total confiscation. Even
Hitler understood that the gradual expansion of seemingly harmless laws could
have a very effective eventual result. We urge you to call your state senator
to voice your concern that SB288 is not going to have any effect on the
day-to-day crime rates in Baltimore City. Better yet call or email the
following: Sen. John Gianetti 410-841-3141 or john_gianetti@senate.state.md.us Call Sen. James Brochin 410-841-3648 or jim_brochin@senate.state.md.us. Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. said recently that he is opposed to a statewide ban on the sale of assault-style weapons, thus setting
up a showdown with Democratic leaders in the General Assembly who want
to implement the measure before the federal ban expires this year. Ehrlich did not say whether he would veto the legislation if it
makes it to his desk, but his communications director, Paul E. Schurick, said
the Republican administration could never support the measure. Even if it
passes and Ehrlich vetoes it, chances are the Democrat controlled Assembly may
have the votes to overturn it. Everyone----lets get involved before its too
late!!! State Assoc Report J. be held next Saturday February 21st.
Jim sez this is the event we all need to shake out the cabin fever
cobwebs and once again savor the smell of spent cordite in the morning!! Fred
Leeper has agreed to run the match, weather permitting, at the AGC Pistol range
from 10am til 3pm. Any caliber, any action can be used
.so here's your chance
to get out and put some down range!! We
need a good turnout for this, so get up and get out!! ►Stemmers Fun Shoot◄ Jim is also pleased to announce that if you
can't make the Polar Bear Shoot then we'll hold a Fun Pistol Shoot on Saturday
March 20th, also from 10am to 3pm. (This is a day before our March
21st Meeting) Same venue - any caliber, any action. Jim will have more info on these matches,
plus our Annual Pistol Shoot & Picnic scheduled for April 24th,
at our upcoming February meeting. IDPA: International Defensive Pistol Assoc. **A New Pistol Discipline submitted by John Jarvis 301--362-9960** Basically, IDPA is an IPSC or USPSA style discipline but with "real world" equipment restrictions and scenarios (so they say). The attached Thurmont matches consist of 5 stages and sometime during the year we'll
throw in backup gun stage that require transition to a backup arm to complete a
shooting scenario and also some great stages that require transition to a
defensive carbine to engage targets out to 60-80 yards or so. Most local
matches are low key, with people approaching the matches as training
opportunities. You shoot for score, but
everyone is there to help and I've never seen a range-nazi mentality about
equipment, etc. Common sense and safety
prevails (although there was that 3 second penalty I incurred for leaving an
empty mag behind after a reload because the mag didn't come from a slide-locked
pistol, oh well). |
IDPA matches are held at the Thurmont Sportsman's and Conservation Club about 40 minutes from
AGC, in the Action Pistol newsletter section.
This is the entire 2004 schedule.
First match doesn't require IDPA membership, but they'll ask that you be
an IDPA member for subsequent matches.
Matches run about $10. ▫▫March 16th - Tues. 2 PM ▫April 20th - Tues 2 PM - Classifier ▫ April 25th - Sunday 10 AM ▫May 18th - Tues 2 PM ▫June 15th - Tues 2 PM ▫June 27th - Sunday 10 AM ▫July 20th - Tues 2 PM ▫Aug 17th - Tues 2 PM ▫Aug 29th - Sunday 10 AM ▫Sept. 21 - Tues. 2 PM ▫Oct 19th - Tues 2 PM - Classifier ▫Oct. 31 - Sunday 10 AM ▫Nov. 16th - Tues 2 PM For info see Web: IDPA.COM Shotgun Robin Meyer 410-833-8310 ● Trap Shoots prior to our monthly club meetings will resume with the Sunday April 18th meeting and continue thru til October. ● Trap every Wednesday afternoon and Sundays at the Messick Trap range. ● Robin is still looking for volunteers to represent Stemmers Run and help honcho some AGC Sunday Trap Range dates that have yet to filled. New Business: Get Well: Long time member Frank McGowan recently had surgery and is recovering at home. The club will send a fruit basket and card. Get well soon, Frank!! NRA: The 2004 NRA National Convention will be held in Pittsburgh, PA from April 16 thru 18. Jim Meyer stated that this a once in a lifetime event since it is rarely held east of the "Big Muddy". He suggests that any and all interested club members contact him or Stu to make arrangements to possibly form carpools for those interested in going. If you'd like to spend the weekend than possibly hotel accommodations can be researched. Regional Gun Shows: PG County Showplace Arena February 21-22 (Silverado) State Fairgrounds Timonium February 13-15 (Camrod) Pikesville NG Armory, Pikesville March 6-7 (Camrod) Upcoming Events: This Sunday February 15th 7:30 pm @ Messick Hall Range Badges & Election of 2004 Club Officers Club meetings are always held the 3rd
Sunday of every month except August. Remaining 2004 meetings: March 21 April 18 May 16 June 20 July 18 August no meeting September 19 October 17 November 21 December 19 Christmas Holiday Party Election of Club Officers: This Sundays' meeting we will hold elections for 2004. The good news is, President Stu Stein, VP Cheryl Moseley, Secretary Bob Holland and AGC Trustee Jay Green have all decided to return as nominees for their respective offices. The bad (or rather sad) news is that after more than 25 years, Robin Meyer has decided to hang it up and retire as club Treasurer. A nominee for that slot, however, was quickly found: none other than Duke Frazier. A club member since 1993, Duke has decided to throw his hat in the ring. Other nominees for any of the above offices will also be accepted and is more than welcome. Please, if you'd like to contribute to the club in a meaningful way, than by all means become part of the solution. At the very least try to make it the election proceedings and have your vote count.

02/22 Quote of the Month: "The most foolish
mistake we could make would be to allow the subject races to possess arms.
History shows that all conquerors who have allowed the subject races to carry
arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as
to say that the supply of arms to the underdogs is a sine qua non for the
overthrow of any sovereignty." - Adolf Hitler, Edict of March 18,
1938. |
