AGC Report

J. Green

410-435-2528

(From meeting of  Tues.  May 4th )

● Effective immediately, Howard County Rifle & Pistol Club, currently an Associated Member Club,  will replace the Montfaucon Rifle & Pistol Club as a Charter Member Club of the AGC. The Montfaucon R&P Club dates back to the late 1940's and was one of the original 15 Charter Member Clubs that formed the AGC. But sadly, membership has fallen off and the club has apparently ceased many its organized operations.

●.The Maryland State Rifle & Pistol Association has become an Associated Member Club of the AGC on May 18th.

●The Libby Junior Small-Bore Championships will be held this Saturday June 19th on the 100 yd Range. Sponsored by Arlington R&P Club, this is one of the AGC's annual flagship matches and draws hundreds of shooters from the throughout the region.

Legislative Report

Jim Meyer

(410) 833-8310

Congress to TSA: Arm More Pilots or Suffer Consequences - New legislation just introduced in the US Congress by Sen. Jim Bunning  (R) of  Kentucky and Rep. Joe Wilson  (R) of S.C. that will force the Transportation Security Admin. to train & certify 90% of all pilot/ applicants within 6 months of training. Initially, the TSA has certified fewer than 100 pilots by setting up numerous roadblocks that severely restricted the number of pilots who can carry firearms. Many applicants were "flunked" because they expressed reservations about TSA policy, elaborate and redundant physical and psychological exams were used to deter pilots already certified to fly planes with hundreds of passengers.

When passed, the bill will eliminate the stupid "lock-box" in the cockpit and allow the pilots to carry them on and off the plane. "Tens of thousands of armed pilots are a real deterrent and defense, " Sen. Bunning stated, 'A few hundred are not." Opponents of the legislation hate the fact that average citizens (that is, pilots who may or may not have law enforcement training) are being allowed to carry firearms on planes. This is pro-gun legislation that advances freedom in the right direction.

Disciplines

Hi Power

J Green

410-433-2528

● Our Hi-Power Team of Jay Green, Stu Stein, Dan Green, Bob Holland and two new shooters Doug Self and Jim Bowen completed both Spring Matches on 04/25 & 05/23. The final results will be forthcoming next month. Incidentally, Doug comes to us as a  member of the Old Post R &P Club because they currently are not sponsoring a team this year.

State R&P Association

Jay Green

410-433-2528

● The State Hi-Power team is gearing up for the NRA National Matches at Camp Perry this summer from late July thru early August. Jay sez that anyone interested in attending the Nationals this year had better contact him ASAP for the information packet needed to get you going. Steve Trent, Dan Green and Jay will represent Stemmers Run on the State Team.

Action & Bulls-Eye Pistol

Jim Meyer

410-833-8310

● Action Pistol - Jim reported that he and Torba fired the Police Practical Combat course at Chambersburg, PA. recently in preparation for the Bianchi Cup Matches. This course requires the shooter to fire at moving targets appearing at various distances ( 15, 25, & 50 ft) and requires drawing from the holster. Jim had 47 of 48 hits, with Torba unable (or unwilling) to share his score, deferring to a bum shoulder for not doing as well.

● Bulls-Eye Pistol - The Spring Pistol League is in full swing every Tuesday evening at the AGC Range from 5 to 8pm. Jim sez the entry fee is $3 for 90 rounds and represents the best bargain going. These matches are also excellent tune-ups for the upcoming Regional Matches.

The NRA Regional Pistol Matches will be here at the AGC starting on the July 4th weekend. This will be one huge extravaganza and should not be missed by anyone, no matter what your skill level. Jim sez the best pistol shooters on the East coast will be there, and for our members its  a good  opportunity to see the best this sport has to offer. Try to make this one!

Juniors Program

Stu Stein

410-486-6089

Stu reported that he had recently completed an initial weapons orientation at Randallstown High School recently for members of the Naval Junior ROTC Program. The next step, getting them out to the range was, however, short-circuited by an unfortunate shooting at the school on May 7th by four local idiots.  Because of this event and the possible negative publicity attached to it, the program was put on hold until next fall.  Stu is still very positive that this program is needed there now more than ever. Events such as these, in places like Randallstown High, must be turned around and the Stemmers Run Juniors Program will be there to help make it happen. If you are interested in helping Stu next fall, please let your voice be heard now,

please call Stu ASAP.
