July
Meeting Minutes taken by Cheryl Moseley for Bob Holland (410-296-1596) Treasurers Report Robin Meyer 410-833-8310 The club currently carries a positive cash balance of $3,224.03 50/50 Door Prize Our own VP Cheryl Moseley won the July drawing, walking away with whopping $17.50. Congratulations Cheryl! New Member Chairman The club is currently in need of a new member orientation chairman. This duty is currently being performed by our president Stu Stein and is one that detracts from his otherwise important duty of running the general meeting. If you want to contribute to the club in a meaningful way this may be your opportunity. We can orient you in what you have to know. In no time you'll be introducing new club members to shooting sports with Stemmers Run. Contact Stu at 410-486-6089 ASAP! New Member:

July Meeting Attendees: J.R. Broderick, Jim Meyer, Jay Green,
Melvin Marshall, Jim Price, Jim Meyer, Ann Frazier, Duke Frazier, Robin Meyer,
Stu Stein, Steve Trent, Scott Zeck, Del Cockey, Bill Szymanski, Bill Shimp,
Louis Sulzbacher.
Meeting Minutes: Our July
20, 2003 meeting opened with the traditional, time-honored pledge to Old Glory. VP Cheryl Moseley opened the meeting but later turned the gavel over to
Prez Stu Stein upon his completion of new member orientation duties. Cheryl then
assumed the role of temporary secretary. AGC Report J. Green 410-435-2528 Jay Green is our representative to the Associated Gun Clubs meetings that are held the first Tuesday of each month from 7:30 -11:00 at the Barnes Range House. Meetings are open to the public and all club members. This could be your chance to speak out. July AGC Meeting: ·.AGC maintenance projects seem to be the primary emphasis these days. Chores include painting the permanent benchrests, the temporary benchrests and the foundation walls behind the Barnes Range House. Then there is filling in ditches, replacing the barrier wall behind the 200- yard range and laying block in the small building between Barnes and the pistol range. Most pressing, however, is the grass cutting brought about by the non-stop rain we've experienced this summer. The AGC is always looking for club volunteers to help keep our range in top condition. Call Jay if you think you'd like to help, it will definitely be appreciated. |

· The new photo ID project was discussed further, including the inability to determine the eventual costs to club members. Remember, this little project is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2004. Stay tuned for further revelations! Legislative Report Jim Meyer (410) 833-8310 Jim read over several newspaper articles of interest to those of us concerned with preserving our Second Amendment rights. ·With the federal ban on assault weapons due to expire on September 13, 2004, two Maryland lawmakers want the upcoming General Assembly to take another crack at expanding a statewide ban on all assault weapons to replace the expiring federal laws. Sen. Robert Garagiola, D-Montgomery, and Delegate Neil Quinter, D-Howard plan to introduce a new bill when the Assembly reconvenes in January. Leah Barrett, executive director of Ceasefire Maryland will work with these and other sympathetic legislators to draft new, more stringent bills. On our side Sen. J. Lowell Stoltzfus, R-Somerset, said he doesn't know what kind of chance these bills would have next session. He does say that it has been shown that where there is gun control crime is higher. "You are not controlling the criminals, you are controlling the law-abiding citizens. Criminals will get guns anyway". There is no doubt the anti-gun politicians will play on the very negative feelings the general public felt during the sniper rampage last year. As for us, we must prepare ourselves to fight against those who will deny us our constitutional rights. Contact your local State Delegates and let them know how you feel. |
State Rifle & Pistol Association Report J. Green Members of the club are urged to investigate the Maryland R & P Association web site: www.msrpa.org Disciplines Hi Power J Green 410-433-2528 · The Fall 2003 AGC Hi-Power Team Match schedule was firmed up at the Team Captains' meeting following the August 30th Work Day at the 200 Yard Range. Stemmers Run has entered one team that will consist of the following members: Jay Green, Stan Scott, Bob Holland, Dan Green, Dave Lloyd and Wally Chance. Our two shooting dates will be September 28th and October 12th. · Our Hi-Power chairman, Jay Green wants to remind everyone interested in shooting competitively that we are not limited to one team. Less than ten years ago Stemmers fielded four Hi-Power Teams, each consisting of six shooters. That’s 24 Hi-Power shooters Stemmers was able put on the range. So folks, if there is enough interest from our diverse membership to form second team than by all means we can enter another team. The entry fee for each shooter is $8.00 for both matches. If you and five others are interested in entering another team please contact Jay ASAP. Potential shooting dates extend every Sunday through to November 9th.
